Joseph Bergin began his career as a summer intern in New Haven, CT in 1985. He has been working in the architecture profession ever since, during the next seventeen years in New York City, and since 2002 in his home state of Connecticut. In October 2005, Joe established his own firm in the town of Essex, CT. Joe practices the talents he has cultivated over many years and finds great pleasure expressing those talents through a diversity of project types. He delights in conceiving inspired residential designs for stately homes of new construction, or maneuvering dramatic alterations out of existing houses. At the same time, Joe is in his element while exercising the methodical problem solving and analytic skills that are demanded by larger, more complex building projects serving commercial, civic or institutional uses.
Joe’s early career in New York City was significantly informed by a major high rise luxury hotel project at Park Avenue South and 38th Street. From 1990 to 1995, Joe rose from junior draftsman to project manager over the five year course of that project’s design and construction, with a caring mentor involving him very closely and coaching him in all aspects of the design, coordination and contract administration of a major New York City construction project. Meanwhile, Joe handled the development of design and construction documents for numerous other projects in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, sharpening the skill sets that are necessary to manage competing priorities when concurrent projects are in various stages of development.
While Joe had been groomed early in his career to manage complex commercial building projects, he had also become very knowledgeable in the management of a small architecture firm. In 1996, Joe joined a rising and extraordinary design talent, Daniel Romualdez, to provide guidance and support to Daniel’s recently launched architectural design firm. With determination to set and uphold standards of excellence in design and project delivery, the two together built a strong boutique practice that produced outstanding design projects, providing full architectural and interior decorating services to a spectacular assortment of New York City’s most discerning clientele. The practice earned a reputation for extraordinary design delivered by way of thorough construction documents that were produced in proper time, resulting in very tight bid ranges and holding change orders to minimums.
In 2002, Joe moved on to a position with a highly talented partnership in Fairfield, CT where he developed designs and produced construction documents that specialized in the vernacular of residential Connecticut architecture for the private properties and estates of discerning clients throughout Fairfield County. After some time and numerous designs developed, Joe yearned for the possibilities of his own firm. He established Joseph Bergin Architect P.C. in the autumn of 2005 with a dedication to client service and devotion to principles of smart, tasteful design and adept project stewardship.
Joe lives close to where he works, with his wife and two daughters, in a house that was built when Thomas Jefferson was President of the United States.
