The homeowners’ aspiration for their new house was to devote a good majority of the area of the house to the “public” living space, and a minimum to the “private” sleeping room areas.  They sought to have an expansive open space to nurture the family interactions of daily life, and to set a comfortable environment for their occasional social entertaining.

At the onset of the project, the client presented a list of program requirements, among which was included a bold challenge:  “Can an Italian villa meet Asian meet Caribbean meet ski chalet?”
